BARAĆ: “A GREAT SEASON IN THE ABA LEAGUE, I AM PROUD OF THE WORK WE HAVE DONE”
Mega Superbet basketball team failed to overcome Budućnost Voli in the second game of the ABA League playoff quarterfinal series at the Ranko Žeravica Sports Hall. After a hard-fought and tense finish, Mega lost 87:92 (21:19, 17:30, 31:15, 18:28). Marko Barać’s squad, despite a strong first quarter, was trailing at halftime but made an incredible comeback in the third quarter to take control. The final 10 minutes saw a fierce battle, but the more experienced team from Podgorica regained the lead late and secured the victory, moving the series to 2-0 and advancing to the semifinals. Mega Superbet’s ABA League season 2024/25 has thus come to an end.
Mega Superbet head coach Marko Barać shared his thoughts at the post-game press conference:
– It was a tough game, but I’d say a pretty good one. Without three players from our rotation, we knew it would be hard to maintain the pace for the full 40 minutes. After a somewhat slow start, where we simply couldn’t establish or read the opponent’s game plan, we responded as a team in the third quarter, played much better defense, and made a big comeback. In the end, Budućnost, playing very solid basketball with strong individual players, managed to capitalize on certain situations thanks to their individual quality. We simply lacked the manpower to sustain our level of play until the end. I’m sure it wouldn’t have been undeserved if we had won, and I must congratulate my players for their effort tonight. It wasn’t easy to endure everything against such a quality opponent.
At the start of the season, there were many comments predicting a nightmare season. However, last season, there was a lot of praise and talk about a dream season. I feel called to make a comparison, and I can say I am even prouder of the work we have done. First and foremost, all the people in the club who provided the conditions, then my coaching staff and players who carried the whole season extraordinarily well. A great season for the club, a great season in the ABA League, maintaining continuity in playoff appearances. Considering the competition, we must be very satisfied. What gives me the greatest satisfaction is that these players, who at the season’s start were viewed in a certain way, made a significant leap forward and will all step up to the next level after this season. Finally, I wish Budućnost the best of luck moving forward,
said Barać.
Mega Superbet is now turning its focus to the Serbian Superliga, where they will face FMP in the quarterfinals in a best-of-three series. The first game is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, at 7 PM, at TC Dejan Milojević.
