BASKETBALL KOALA OUT OF RETIREMENT TO SHOW SUPPORT

Definition of the word “mascot” means a person or a thing that is supposed to bring good luck to an organization or an event.

Some years ago, this koala was the mascot of basketball club Mega Bemax but when the club moved to another Serbian town, the koala was retired. In koala’s place, a new mascot arrived by the name of Pink Panther. The town sports hall bears the name “Pinki” after a WWII hero plus the club’s jerseys were pink and that’s how the Pink Panther was born and is still the mascot of the team.

Because basketball transcends borders and means much more than just the game, the retired koala is now being reinstated as a symbol of support to Australia’s battle with the wildfires and to the many species who are now near extinction. Until the end of the ABA league, the basketball koala will be bringing luck not only to Mega’s players but hopefully to those who need it the most.
