AVDALOVIĆ: “WE WERE UNABLE TO DO WHAT CHARACTERIZED US IN PREVIOUS GAMES”
Mega Superbet basketball players were unable to extend their winning streak, as after three consecutive victories in Round 5 of the ABA League Play-out phase, they suffered a defeat away to Split at Gripe, 74–96 (17:25, 15:24, 19:21, 23:26). The team coached by Vule Avdalović found themselves in a double-digit deficit after 20 minutes, played better after halftime, but failed to close the gap, and the home team secured the win. Mega Superbet remains in a good position regarding Play-in qualification and sits in second place in the Play-out standings with a 9–12 record, while Split is at 5–16.
Head coach Vule Avdalović shared his thoughts at the post-game press conference:
– I would like to congratulate Split on an excellent game. During the season, they had a few good performances, and in some games they were unlucky, but they are a very quality team that deserved the win today. As for us, we had major problems on defense in terms of intensity, effort, contact… What we did in previous games that led us to victories, we failed to do today. To play fast in transition from defense to offense—we didn’t manage that today. We also had a shortened rotation, another injured player, and a tougher rhythm, since we are not used to playing so many games and falling out of our training rhythm. All of that affected our performance, and we lost by a large margin. It is important that we analyze this game and try to bounce back in the next matches, in order to find a way to record a few more wins by the end of the season,
said Avdalović.
In the next, Round 6 of the Play-out phase, Mega Superbet will host FMP. The game at Ranko Žeravica Sports Hall is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at 12:00.
