BARAĆ: „WE MANAGED TO PLAY OUR GAME AND RUN WELL – A BIG WIN”
Mega Superbet recorded a vital win in Round 27 of the ABA League, defeating Spartak Office Shoes from Subotica 97:90 (30:25, 22:24, 27:18, 18:23) at the Ranko Žeravica Sports Hall. After a fairly even first half, Marko Barać’s squad had a strong third quarter, building a double-digit lead. Though Spartak managed to cut the deficit to just two points late in the game, a decisive scoring run by Mihailo Petrović sealed the deal for Mega and secured a win of immense value in the playoff race.
With this result, Mega Superbet improved its record to 14-13, now tied with Spartak and FMP, but currently holds the eighth spot in the standings — the final position that grants a playoff berth in the regional league.
Following the game, Mega Superbet head coach Marko Barać shared his thoughts at the post-game press conference:
– Congratulations to my players on a big win. We were up against a team that has been playing phenomenal basketball lately, one that just came through a very tough stretch with victories over the league’s top teams. Our preparations were a bit unusual — we had several players absent. Our junior squad just wrapped up their ABA League competition in the best possible way, so I want to congratulate them as well. Also, Marković, an important player for us, only rejoined the team yesterday. We expected a tough game, but we tried to approach it with a lot of optimism, and despite the circumstances, that mindset brought us the win tonight. We didn’t open the game defensively the way we wanted to, but we managed to find our rhythm, run the floor well, and punish the opponent. We were also highly motivated, knowing that we played poorly in Subotica earlier this season and were convincingly beaten by this same team. So, there were plenty of reasons — not just the playoff race — to come out strong tonight. I want to congratulate everyone in the club. I also wish Spartak the best of luck for the rest of the season. Onward we go,
Barać said.
In Round 28 of the ABA League, Mega Superbet will head to Zagreb to face Cibona. The game is scheduled for Monday, April 21, at 9:00 PM.
